Groovy 70's Light-Tastic

Another busy week at the Bassett Repair Shop with the usual mix of electrical items. I also had 4 G-Plan dining room chairs with doggy joints - which is something I can personally relate to.

One of the chairs had been reduced to its component parts, a bit like an Ikea chair sans instructions. Chairs with loose joints need to be pulled apart and the old glue needs to be removed – back to bare wood for the new glue to properly adhere. Then lots of clamps and ratchet straps to hold them in place while the glue goes off. Lots of effort but the customer was very happy with the end result. This weeks outlier was a peach of a fibre optic light from the 1970’s that needed some TLC to bring it back to life. Those of a certain age will remember how cool these lights were back in the day. I remember going into Tyrell & Green (showing age again) back in the 70’s and marvelled at these lights. They would be sat next to the lava lamps and those chrome frames with the ball bearings on strings. Executive Toys was the generic term.

Back then there was a TV series called Jason King. JK was a very groovy Austin Powers type love god type with shirt undone to the waist and chimp like hairy chest. I think it was tongue-in-cheek but it was painful back then for a 10 year old.
