Another busy week at the repair shop with the usual varied mix of items including an LG TV, a few standard lamps, a Kenwood Chef, a NutriBullet blender, a Shure microphone, an aluminium folding ramp, a Grundig radio, a Miele vacuum and a sprinkling of Dysons.
This week's outlier was a ‘Tomy Turnin' Turbo Dashboard (sic) driving toy from 1983. It required full disassembly, a clean of the electrical contacts and an application of silicon grease to all the plastic on plastic surfaces.
It was one of those items that was easy to take apart but required three pairs of hands to reassemble. Unfortunately, I only have one pair... but we got there in the end!
Once back together I road tested it to the sound of Herbie Hancock’s Rockit and drove all the way back to the eighties.
I like the way toy manufactures encourage good spelling by using words like ‘Turnin’. It probably came from Toys R Us.
Pure genius on their part.
Sic init.
