A customer contacted me a few weeks ago and told me about their very old record player and asked if I could take look and maybe repair it.
The customer dropped off a very unusual record player called a Wondergram that was originally sold in the late 50’s. The Wondergram was made by the Emerson Electronics company and was sold with the strap line “The World’s Smallest Record Player”. The 1959 price was £10 which equates to £238 in 2021.
The repair required a full disassembly, the lubrication of the motor and other moving parts and the replacement of some of the electronic components like capacitors.
Following that, it played an LP without a problem.The sound was, to put it politely, memorable and not for the bass heads out there...
